| The very familiar toe-tapping sounds of Motown, the infectious dance grooves of Memphis soul shouters such as Wilson Pickett, the smooth, sophisticated Philly soul music of Earth, Wind & Fire, the hard driving funk-rock of Sly and the Family Stone, the soothing grooves of R&B crooners like Marvin Gaye and Bill Withers, and, of course, the unforgettable music of the king of soul, Mr. James Brown — this is the music The Bernadettes perform. Yes, they’ll mix it up with a few modern contemporary dance hits here and there, a classic rock number, or an oldies favorite, but the emphasis is on the classic “old school” R&B music that American baby boomers have grown up with and folks of all ages have enjoyed dancing to for several decades.
Make your event a memorable event, and have your wedding be the one that family and friends will talk about for years. The Bernadettes have gained a peerless reputation in New England and the greater New York City area for providing high-energy dance music with a touch of class and sophistication that keeps the dance floor filled. With over a century of combined musical performing experience, the six talented musicians who make up the band have developed an uncanny knack to “read” their audience, knowing when to pull out that ballad for slow dancing, tone it down a notch with a cool jazzy instrumental when dining occurs, and, of course, to “kick out the jams” with an up-tempo funk number when it’s time for the party to begin in earnest. The Bernadettes possess an ability both to engage the casual listener on the dance floor with a “hit” dance song, and yet also to perk up the ears of the most sophisticated music connoisseur with a classic blues number or a clever instrumental arrangement. It’s this ability that distinguishes The Bernadettes as the choice for distinctive, yet entertaining and engaging musical entertainment for your party or event.
The full band includes six members: Don DeStefano (harmonica and vocals), Paul Georgia (drums and vocals), Jim Kader (guitar), Elden Lowery (lead vocals and percussion), Mark Spicer (keyboards and vocals), and Jack Thigpen (bass guitar and vocals). While we normally perform as a full six-piece band, we can also provide smaller groups on request (for example, you may prefer to have just piano and vocals performing.
