This band is so good, it’s ridiculous!
Organic, spontaneous jazz and swing for sophisticated clients and their unique events....
Vintage, retro Old Hollywood themed romance and glamour: sophisticated live jazz, swing and big band music for California weddings and events…
Not your average Los Angeles wedding band…or wedding singer!
Southern California’s premier resource for live jazz, swing and big band entertainment and Old Hollywood themed wedding entertainment for more than two decades, renowned jazz singer Judy Chamberlain’s unique live music boutique provides extraordinary wedding musicians, wedding bands, jazz bands, swing bands and big bands for one-of-a-kind weddings, parties, concerts and special events in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Malibu, Hollywood, Pasadena, Palm Springs, Orange County, San Diego, Temecula, Ventura, Santa Barbara, the California Central Coast and beyond.
Everything we do is “bespoke,” customized to give you exactly what we know you want: the most exciting, meaningful and memorable wedding or event anyone you know has ever attended.
Old Hollywood glamour themed weddings are our specialty, and nobody does vintage retro-glam better than we do. From classical wedding ceremony music to timeless jazz and dance music — including 1920’s, 1930’s and 1940’s swing and big band, ballroom, R&B, Latin, soul, funk and disco — we really DO it all, sometimes in the same set. Because the styles of music we perform are so diverse and we play them so well, our product is unique and not easily duplicated.
Our enormous repertoire of thousands of songs draws from our vast knowledge of jazz, rock, pop, swing, sophisticated chamber and classical music and eloquent tunes from movies and Broadway shows. In our hands, a bridal processional, first dance or parent dance becomes a smoothly staged Hollywood extravaganza.
Our superb wedding musicians include jazz bands, swing bands, big bands and variety bands, singers, string quartets and classical ensembles, jazz trios and quartets, swing quintets, sextets and septets, pianists, upright bass players, guitarists, harpists, violinists, cellists, clarinet players, flute and saxophone players, percussionists and vibraphonists.
Styles of music our dance bands play include pop, jazz, swing, Motown, deco, disco, soul, funk, blues, country, salsa, rock, Roaring Twenties, Old Hollywood, Big Band Era and Rat Pack tunes, the standards of the Great American Songbook, mid-twentieth century “modern” and the diverse material of artists like Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, The Beatles, Ray Charles, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Bobby Darin, Paul Anka, The Platters, Joni Mitchell, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Gloria Gaynor, Donna Summer and many more.
Guests at weddings and corporate events often tell us they thought they were listening to a CD until they made their way through the ballroom, looked up at the stage and realized it was a live band.
Live Music for Wow Factor Weddings and Events…
We’re hard to define, and are prepared to switch gears in an instant. When people are dancing, we play continuous music, segueing from one song to the next seamlessly. DJ’s think they invented that trick, and it’s something that not many bands can do. Unlike bands that are limited to a conventional repertoire, we know thousands of songs from memory. Because we don’t have to slow down to turn pages in a book, we can take requests from the dance floor and play them on the spot!
We work together all the time, and know each other’s playing styles well. Our collective repertoire is literally endless, which makes us very versatile and flexible. We are experts at “reading” a crowd.
You’ve seen and heard many of our musicians on TV shows, movie soundtracks and your favorite albums for years. They have played and recorded with Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Gladys Knight, Donna Summer, Marvin Gaye, Herbie Hancock, Paul McCartney, Diana Krall, Natalie Cole and Michael Buble, to name just a few.
We are on the preferred vendor lists of many exclusive venues, private estates, hotels and wineries, and know our way around hundreds of special event locations and wedding destinations.
“Judy Chamberlain is an incredible torch singer, and I say that as someone who hates jazz utterly and completely.” Rebecca Schoenkopf, OC Weekly
A native New Yorker who moved to California in 1980, Los Angeles-based singer and bandleader Judy Chamberlain was invited in 2007 to perform in the famed Playboy Jazz Festival in Los Angeles and was recently named “one of the top 500 jazz singers of all time” by author Scott Yanow.
Featured on E! Entertainment, The Style Network, ABC’s “The Bachelor” and written about extensively by the mainstream music press, Chamberlain is known for her versatility and the ability to switch gears in an instant to take requests from the floor, play to the crowd and lay down “continuous music” without missing a beat. From the Roaring Twenties to the Rat Pack, ballroom to blues, R&B, funk, jazz, swing and Motown, nobody does live dance music better.
The late guitarist Al Viola, a beloved longtime musical collaborator of Chamberlain’s who was on every album Frank Sinatra recorded from 1955 to 1983 often compared her to Sinatra, saying: “Judy takes care of business, and sings the hell out of a tune, the way he did. She can take the pickup on a song because she gives the right signals so that the band is instantly with her — and she knows exactly what the audience wants to hear. She has an enormous repertoire and she knows how to use it.”
“She knows more songs than anyone, ever…an intriguing interpreter of standards…” says Los Angeles Times jazz critic Don Heckman.
“One of the first things you notice about singer Judy Chamberlain is the breadth of material she has at her disposal,” concurs Kirk Silsbee, entertainment columnist for L.A. City Beat and Downbeat Magazine.
