Let’s Wait a While—Majority of Couples Have Wedding One to Two Years After Getting Engaged

How long will you have been engaged before the big day?
- Less than six months - 15%
- Six months to a year - 28%
- One to two years - 43%
- More than two years - 14%
“These results were not all that surprising, considering that we keep hearing about couples putting off their wedding date for at least a year after getting engaged. Some reasons for this could be the limited availability of reception sites or wanting to lose weight before the big day,” said Joyce Artinian, a spokesperson for WedAlert.com. “A recent high profile example of this is the wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Despite the fact that they were engaged after only a couple months of dating, they waited over a year to get married.
